Wow!! Can you believe tomorrow is already NYE?!? 2015 has gone by WAY too fast so while I’m sitting here trying to finish up my 2015 Project Life album I started thinking… Should I make any changes to how I’m documenting our life in 2016? This will be my THIRD (like I already said, time’s flying by!!) year documenting life with the Project Life system designed by Becky Higgins so over the past three years I’ve definitely had some trials and errors to get me to where I am now. The short answer is not really, however I thought I should share how I came to that decision…
Album Style and Size
For the past two years I’ve made “week in the life” 12×12 albums. I plan to continue using a 12×12 album in 2016 for my weekly layouts and smaller 8×8 albums for any trips I decide to make a separate album for as well as for my December Daily. I’ve found different black and white printed albums the past two years and hope to find something that will compliment these other albums nicely on the shelf in 2016.
This is where I’ve learned the most. When I started Project Life two years ago I bought a big variety pack of pocket pages and kind of just went for it! Well, it didn’t turn out horribly but when you skip weeks and then try and go back to fill in with pictures from those missing weeks it can make things tricky if the backs of the previous and following weeks only have spots for horizontal pictures and all your pictures from that week are vertical. I took those experiences in 2014 as a learning lesson going into 2015 and decided to only use Design A and Design D which worked VERY nicely and I plan to continue this in 2016.
I bought a nice Canon Pixma printer last year and used in a few times in 2015. The quality of this printer is excellent and if you watch for deals on amazon you can even get the ink at a reasonable price. Despite this, I plan to continue to order my prints through Shutterfly in 2016 because I have myself hooked on matte finish photos and haven’t found a matte paper I like that I can use with the Cannon printer.
I go back and fort on this… I know I’d like the consistency of using a uniform title card throughout my album but I have so much fun designing different cards like these below I have a feeling I’ll keep switching it up from week to week.
In 2015 I plan to make myself a little Project Life on-the-go kit like Mrs. Boom did on her blog so I can stay more up to date with my journaling while away on trips for work. My other plan for 2016 is to have my husband do more journaling so our album is from both of our perspectives instead of just mine. I had him do some journaling in our wedding album and loved reading how he told stories differently than I would have.
