MY 5 FAVORITE BOOKS FROM 2015
I know I know… It’s 2016 but I haven’t posted much about my 2016 resolutions and while I keep thinking about what they should be I keep thinking I want to read more in 2016. I’m lucky that my job gives my a lot of downtime in hotels and I’ve decided to stop binge watching The Real Housewives and start reading more! While I started brainstorming a list of books I’d like to read this year I was thinking about which books I read in 2015 were my favorites and I thought for this Friday Favorite’s list I’d share my five favorite books I read last year.
I have to make a confession about reading this book. One of my moms best friends gave her this book to give to me almost an entire year before I actually read it. My mom told me her friend had said that I would LOVE this book but when I saw the plane on the front, like a bratty pilot I am I was sure her friend had thought I’d like it only because it was about flying. Then my fiancé brought this book home (after he bought a second copy at the airport) and couldn’t stop talking about it. I decided to read this book and it was so good I was disappointed in myself the entire time I was reading it that I had waited so long to read it. Long story short, read this book, it’s about WAY more than just flying and airplanes and then watch the movie… the movie is actually one of the better movies I’ve seen made after a book in a long time.
If you’ve read or watched Wild or read A Walk in The Woods and enjoyed them then you MUST read Grandma Gatgewood’s Walk! This book is about a grandma who walked the entire Appalachian trail alone. I found this book by accident at Powell’s in Portland and am so happy I bought it when I found it!
Have you been to Powell’s before? I LOVE that book store!
I know this book was popular like, forever ago but somehow I had never read it until this past spring! I usually don’t like fictional murder mysteries but this story was so realistic I got totally drawn in and couldn’t put this book down!
This book will always be special to me because I read in on the flights and while laying on the beach during our honeymoon. While reading this book on the beach in the Seychelles I notices there were at least a half dozen other people reading this book… that was no surprise since this book is so captivating but what was a big surprise was the fact that everyone reading it had it in different languages! Not only do us americans who ride a train to work everyday find this book relatable but so do people from many other countries!
This is another book that I know was really popular before I finally read it, it had been on my list for a while but I kept putting it off since it’s like 18741943 pages long. Then I read Andy Cohen’s book and he talked about not being able to put it down so I decided if Andy got through the entire book so could I! We had just moved into the city when I started reading this and because the majority of this book is placed in NYC I really enjoyed the pictures it painted for me. This book truly is a masterpiece and if you haven’t read it already I’d have to say I’d recommend this book first over all the others on this list!
How cool are these airplane bookends my FIL gave me?!
What were your favorite books of 2015? What books are on the top of your 2016 “to read” book list??
I hope everyone on the east coast stays warm this weekend! It looks like it’s going to be a great weekend to grab a book, a hot cup of tea and cozy in!
